May 11, Chattisgarh: In a tragic road accident late Sunday night, 13 people—including nine women and four children—lost their lives, and 12 others sustained injuries when a truck collided head-on with a trailer near Saragaon on the Raipur-Balodabazar highway in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur district.
The victims, residents of Chatod village,in Chhattisgarh were returning from a “Chhathi” ceremony—a traditional ritual held on the sixth day after a child’s birth—in Bano village. They were traveling in a Swaraj Mazda vehicle (registration number CG 04 MQ 1259) when it collided with a trailer truck (registration number JH 05 DP 7584) around 11:00–11:30 p.m.
District Collector Gaurav Singh confirmed the incident, stating that emergency teams were dispatched immediately upon receiving information. The injured were initially treated at the Community Health Center in Kharora and later transferred to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital in Raipur for further care.
Senior Superintendent of Police Lal Umed Singh indicated that preliminary investigations suggest high speed and possible driver negligence as contributing factors. A formal investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the collision.
BJP MLA Anuj Sharma expressed deep sorrow over the incident, stating, “This is a heartbreaking tragedy. We are coordinating with the administration to ensure proper treatment and support to the victims’ families.”
