Kishtwar (J&K), April 12:
In Jammu and Kashmir, security forces have neutralized three terrorists, including a top commander of the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) o, in an ongoing operation in the snow-covered Chhatru area of Kishtwar district. The operation began on Wednesday and continues despite adverse weather conditions.
As per official sources, two terrorists were killed on Saturday, a day after another was neutralized on Friday morning during an encounter with security forces. Among the slain ultras is a senior JeM commander, identified as Saifullah, who had been active in the Chenab Valley region for the past year and was involved in reviving terror activities in the area.
“In the ongoing operations at Chhatru, Kishtwar, despite bad and inclement weather, two more Pakistani terrorists have been eliminated. A large quantity of war-like stores including one AK and one M4 rifle have been recovered,” the Army’s Jammu-based White Knight Corps said in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
The security forces launched the anti-terror operation on Wednesday after a brief initial encounter. Continuous search and cordon procedures led to the confrontation with the terrorists hiding in the snow-clad terrain, which is known for its harsh climate and challenging geography.
The successful elimination of the trio is being seen as a breakthrough in counter-terror operations in the region, mainly due to Saifullah’s high rank within JeM and his involvement in attempting to radicalize and recruit local youth.
Security forces have launched another operation in the Basantgarh and Ramnagar areas of Udhampur district, aimed at tracking down a group of three more terrorists believed to be hiding in the forested terrain. This parallel operation has also been ongoing since Wednesday and remains active.
Officials confirmed that the twin operations are part of a larger, coordinated strategy to dismantle terror infrastructure and eliminate sleeper cells operating in remote areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
Security agencies are on high alert, and operations will continue in both regions until the threat is fully neutralized.
