Fawad Khan-Vaani Kapoor’s Abir Gulaal Banned in India Amid Backlash After Pahalgam Attack

The much-awaited film Abir Gulaal, starring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan and Indian actress Vaani Kapoor, has been banned in India. The decision comes after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which caused strong public anger. The film was supposed to be released in theatres on May 9, 2025, but now it may not be released in India.

Many people on social media are upset and have started calling for a boycott of the film. As a result, two songs from the film — Khudaya Ishq (a romantic song) and Angreji Rangrasiya (a dance number) — were removed from YouTube India. The songs were released by the music label Saregama, and even the production company, A Richer Lens Entertainment, deleted them from its YouTube channel. So far, neither the actors nor the producers have made any official statement.

The film Abir Gulaal is in a lot of trouble because a lot of people are angry with it. A boycott campaign for the film is becoming very popular, and hashtags such as #BoycottVaaniKapoor are trending on the internet. BN Tiwari, the head of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), has strongly urged against the movie and cautioned the makers. Ashoke Pandit, president of the Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association, stated that Indian actors who collaborate with Pakistani actors will have serious issues in the industry.
