The Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, reached New Delhi on Monday evening for a two-day state visit, which is his second visit since 2015. This visit marks a crucial step towards the further development of the comprehensive strategic partnership that has traditionally existed between India and Qatar with a particular focus on further building relations in all areas.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the Amir of Qatar personally at the Palam Air Force Station in New Delhi which indicates the friendly relations of both nations. Modi warmly embraced Sheikh Tamim as he arrived which exemplifies the cordial relations between India and Qatar. “A special gesture for a special friend!” Modi tweeted giving a preview of the visit.
Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar also provided a warm welcome, having invited the Amir immediately as he came in. Jaishankar stated that he was certain that the Amir’s conversations with Prime Minister Modi on Tuesday would further strengthen the solid relations that already existed between the two countries. “Honoured to call on H.H. @TamimBinHamad, Amir of Qatar on his arrival in New Delhi for a State Visit. Appreciate his wisdom in helping us deepen our collaboration in several areas. Confident that his conversations with PM @narendramodi tomorrow will strengthen the close bonds of friends that we have,” Jaishankar said in his post together with images of the meeting.
The Amir of Qatar’s visit is expected to yield significant diplomatic and economic outcomes. Accompanied by a high-level delegation of ministers, senior officials, and business leaders, the Amir will hold discussions with Prime Minister Modi on a wide range of issues, including trade, investment, energy, technology, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. India and Qatar have built a robust partnership over the years, with a particular emphasis on energy cooperation, trade, and the development of Qatar’s infrastructure, in which India plays an integral role.
The Indian community in Qatar, the largest expatriate group in the country, is also a vital pillar of the relationship, contributing significantly to Qatar’s growth and development. This mutual respect and understanding form the basis for a growing and multifaceted partnership between the two nations.
Today, the Amir will be accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhawan and will meet President Droupadi Murmu, who will host a banquet in his honor. The visit is set to provide further momentum to the burgeoning India-Qatar relationship, with both sides aiming to explore new avenues of collaboration.
