Denton, Texas: A tragic hit-and-run accident in Denton, Texas has claimed the life of a young woman from Andhra Pradesh, India. Deepthi Vangavolu, a native of Guntur district, succumbed to her injuries three days after the accident that occurred on April 12.
The incident took place at the 2300 block of Carril Al Lago Drive, a residential area near North Bonnie Brae Street and West University Drive in Denton city. Deepthi and her friend, Snigdha, also from Guntur’s Medikonduru — were walking home when they were struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.
Deepthi sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where she fought for her life before passing away on April 15. Snigdha also suffered injuries and is currently undergoing surgery. Her condition is reported to be stable.
Deepthi was a B.Tech graduate from Narsaraopet Engineering College and had moved to the United States to pursue a master’s degree in Computer and Information Science at the University of North Texas. She was just a month away from completing her degree, and her family had been making plans to attend her graduation.
The hit-and-run has left the Indian community in Texas and Deepthi’s hometown in shock, mourning the untimely loss of a promising student with a bright future ahead.
Local authorities are continuing their investigation and appealing for any information that could help identify the vehicle and driver involved in the incident.
