February 13, Pune: The Indore police have launched an investigation following a complaint against podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia for allegedly making “obscene and vulgar” remarks on comedian Samay Raina’s YouTube reality show, India’s Got Latent. Local lawyer Aman Malviya complained to the Tukoganj police station, though no FIR has been registered yet.
On Tuesday, station in-charge Jitendra Singh Yadav confirmed the inquiry, stating that appropriate action would be taken after a thorough investigation. The allegations suggest that inappropriate comments were made during the comedy show. Malviya, accompanied by several other lawyers, has accused Allahbadia, Raina, and others associated with the show of exceeding the limits of decency and misusing their right to free expression. He has also called for legal action and a ban on the show.
This development follows a similar move by the Assam Police, who registered an FIR against five individuals, including Allahbadia and Raina, in connection with the same remarks. Additionally, the Mumbai Police have begun their inquiry but have not yet filed an FIR.
The controversy erupted after a video clip from the show went viral on social media, triggering widespread backlash. In response, Allahbadia, 31, who gained popularity through his YouTube channel BeerBiceps, issued a public apology on Monday. He admitted to a “lapse in judgment” and regretted his remarks.
As the matter gains attention across multiple states, law enforcement authorities continue to examine the allegations, with potential legal consequences for those involved.
