30 April Peshawar: Terrorism struck Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province again on Tuesday when seven bullet-riddled bodies were recovered along a roadside in the Ziarat district. Deputy Commissioner Zakhaullah Durrani said the bodies were recovered early morning in the Chotiyar area and seemed to have been murdered at about the same time.
Immediately after the discovery, irate residents flocked to the scene and protested by blocking the main road linking Chotiyar and Ziarat, causing traffic jams. The government is in negotiations with the protesters to open up the road. The bodies were dispatched for post-mortem to the district headquarters hospital.
The discovery of unidentified and gun-killed corpses in Balochistan is not a rare phenomenon. However, it still evokes serious questions about security and the performance of law enforcers in the province.
In another tragedy, an oil tanker was engulfed in flames after it leaked in Balochistan’s Nushki district on Monday. When firemen attempted to douse the blaze, the tanker burst into flames, killing two individuals and leaving 56 others wounded.
The victims were the tanker driver and a passerby, according to local police officer Atta Ullah. Some of the firefighters and onlookers who had gathered at the scene were also injured.
Government hospital spokesman Waseem Baig in Quetta said that about a dozen victims are in critical condition. Some have been flown to Karachi for further treatment. Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti visited the injured at the Quetta hospital and ordered medical staff to treat them with the best possible care.
