BJP’s Stunning Comeback: Exit Polls Signal AAP’s Downfall

The recent exit polls ahead of the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections reflect a massive change in the political shift, as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to come back into power in the national capital after a 27-year gap. This victory will likely signify the end of the AamAadmi Party’s (AAP’s) rule in Delhi for the past ten years.

Numerous exit polls have shown favorable outcomes for the BJP. The P-Marq exit poll predicts that BJP is securing between 39 to 49 seats, while AAP is anticipated to win 21 to 31 seats. There is also a projection by People’s Pulse that puts 51 to 60 seats on the BJP’s side and 10 to 19 seats for AAP. In contrast, a few polls, such as those by Mind Blink and WeePreside,  have suggested that AAP will still retain their rule with estimates from 44 to 49 and 46 to 52 seats respectively winning them the elections. These varying predictions highlight the dynamic political landscape of Delhi.

The BJP’s revival can be attributed to several factors. The recent federal budget introduced income tax concessions aimed at the middle class, which might have increased support for the party among urban voters. Moreover, the BJP has intensified its campaign strategies, capitalizing on the corruption claims against AAP leaders, including the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal on graft suspicion. Although Kejriwal and his party have dismissed these allegations as politically motivated, the controversy appears to have influenced public perception.

Conversely, AAP, which has been lauded for its welfare initiatives and anti-corruption stance since its inception in 2012, faces challenges from these recent allegations. The party’s leadership maintains that exit polls have historically underestimated their performance, citing previous instances where actual results surpassed predictions. However, the current political climate presents a formidable challenge for AAP as it strives for a fourth consecutive term.

The Indian National Congress, once a dominant force in Delhi politics, continues to struggle. Exit polls indicate that the party may once again fail to secure a significant number of seats, indicating a persistent decline in its urban electoral base.

It is necessary to be cautious about these exit polls, as they could be facing the risk of being wrong, as in previous elections. The results of the Delhi elections will be revealed on February 8, when the official results are announced. Regardless of the outcome, the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections highlight the evolving political dynamics of the city and the shifting allegiances of its voters.
