Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh has once again captured headlines, but this time it’s not for his electrifying concerts or chart-topping music. His much-awaited film Punjab 95, based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, has hit an unexpected roadblock.
Diljit recently took to social media to announce that the film, initially set to release worldwide on February 7, has been postponed. “We are sad to inform you that Punjab 95 will no longer be released on the scheduled date. Some circumstances are beyond our control,” the singer-actor shared. Fans, who had eagerly awaited the film, expressed disappointment over the delay.
Produced by Ronnie Screwvala and directed by Honey Trehan, Punjab 95 has already stirred controversy. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reportedly demanded several cuts, prompting the makers to shelve its Indian release in favor of a global launch. However, the trailer, released last week with claims of an uncut version, has mysteriously disappeared from YouTube India, deepening the intrigue.
Diljit plays Jaswant Singh Khalra, a fearless activist who exposed alleged extrajudicial killings of Sikh youth during Punjab’s insurgency. Khalra’s tragic story of his disappearance in 1995 and the subsequent legal battle led by his wife, Paramjit Kaur remains a poignant chapter in India’s history.
As fans rally behind the film, the reasons behind its delay remain unclear, sparking speculation and anticipation. One thing is certain: Punjab 95 promises to be a powerful narrative of courage, justice, and resilience.
