The ensuing battle will be a tough one, with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party aiming for a third shot at power, while the Bharatiya Janata Party desires to knock AAP out for the control of the city. On the contrary, the BJP is planning to win over Delhi, marking an end to AAP’s ongoing reign. Although Congress has been inactive for some time now, they too are hopeful to win over some seats imbuing a sense of surprise for Delhi politics previously uncharted for them.
2015 and 2020 have been AAP’s domination years as they won over 67 seats and 62 seats respectively. On the other hand, BJP’s woes continue as they manage to grab only a few seats. Looking back, congress was in rule for 15 consecutive years and expected to win more than 0 out of the 2015 and 2020 elections.
While AAP and Congress were part of the INDIA alliance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, they will compete separately in this Assembly race, heightening the stakes. Recently, AAP declared the complete list of its candidates: Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi and Chief Minister Atishi contesting again in Kalkaji.
As Delhi gears up for another intense election season, all eyes will be on how the political landscape begins.
