New Delhi, February 22, 2025: India has lodged a strong protest against Turkey regarding President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s recent comments on Kashmir during his visit to Pakistan. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has dismissed Erdogan’s comments stating that they were, “objectionable” and “unwarranted.”
“We have lodged a strong protest with the Turkish ambassador. Such statements on India’s territorial integrity and sovereignty are unacceptable. Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India,” said MEA’s spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
Erdogan, after his discussions with Pakistan Premier Shehbaz Sharif, remarked that resolving the Kashmir dispute should be “By the UN resolution through dialogue concerning the wishes of the people.” India has always stated that Jammu and Kashmir is a bilateral issue and no third party needs to intervene.
At the same time, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, while meeting Bangladesh’s foreign affairs advisor Touhid Hossain in Muscat, made the statement that Bangladesh “should not normalize terrorism.” This meeting was held on the sidelines of the 8th Indian Ocean Conference in Oman.
Hossain appealed to Jaishankar to rethink his stance on calling for a meeting of the SAARC Standing Committee which, would be an attempt to restore cooperation at the regional level. On the other hand, India has been consistent in its position regarding the sensitive issue of terrorism and regional security.
