In a significant escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian Armed Forces successfully took down a series of drone and missile attacks which were launched by Pakistan targeting military installations across northern and western India. In a rapid counteroffensive, India conducted precision strikes, neutralizing a key Pakistani air defense system in Lahore.
According to the Indian Ministry of Defence, the Pakistani offensive occurred on the night of May 7–8, with drones and missiles aimed at strategic locations including Awantipora, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bathinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj. India’s Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and air defense systems successfully intercepted and neutralized these threats, saving any casualties or damage to military assets.
In response to the attempted attacks, the Indian Army forces launched targeted strikes on Pakistani air defense installations. A significant air defense system in Lahore was destroyed, marking a strategic and bold blow to Pakistan’s military capabilities. These operations were a part of India’s border strategy to suppress enemy air defenses (SEAD) and ensure the safety of its airspace.
The recent hostilities follow India’s “Operation Sindoor,” initiated after a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 Indian civilians. Pakistan’s military reported shooting down multiple Indian drones, including Israeli-made HAROP drones, and accused India of causing civilian casualties in its retaliatory strikes. Conversely, India maintains that its operations have been precise, targeting only military installations and avoiding civilian areas.
International experts are concerned about the escalating conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. The United States and European Union have urged both countries to exercise restraint and engage in diplomatic dialogue to de-escalate tensions. Despite these calls, both India and Pakistan have placed their military forces on high alert, with border regions experiencing heightened security measures and civilian evacuations.
As of the latest events, Pakistan has fired multiple drones on Indian soil in the region of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan and the Indian army have taken them down.
