The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Yogasana Bharat, officially announced that India will host the second Asian Yogasana Sports Championship from April 25 to 27, 2025, at the prestigious Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi, according to SAI media press.
This significant event brought athletes together from at least 16 countries across Asia,170 athletes. The championship aim is to elevate Yogasana from a traditional practice to a recognized competitive sport on an International stage.
The event received support from a prominent organization, such as the Olympic Council of Asia, World Yogasana, Asian Yogasana, and Yogasana Indraprastha. The championship exhibits the athleticism, precision, and artistry inherent in Yogasana, highlighting its potential as a mainstream sport.
“The championship is a celebration of ancient wisdom being adapted into a new competitive sport today,” said Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya while also referring to India’s role in providing Yogasana with a global platform.
Asian Yogasana President Sanjay Malpani referred to the event as a landmark moment in the evolution of Yogasana as a globally recognized sport. World Yogasana Secretary General Jaideep Arya referred to the role of the championship in demonstrating the power, flexibility, and self-discipline that define the centuries-old sport.
The 2nd Asian Yogasana Sports Championship was a stepping stone towards its recognition as one of the international multisports events, generating awareness and evoking passions for this ancient practice in modern sporting arena.
