On May 18, 2025, the Indian Army clarified that the ceasefire agreement with Pakistan, announced on May 10, has no fixed expiry date. This open-ended truce depends heavily on Pakistan’s behavior along the border. The Army emphasized that there are no planned talks at the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) level currently. India is committed to confidence-building measures to lower tensions and avoid military clashes.
The ceasefire followed Operation Sindoor, launched by India on May 7 in response to a terror attack in Pahalgam. This operation targeted terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, killing at least 100 terrorists. Since May 10, no shots have been fired from either side, though Pakistan has attempted drone incursions.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh warned Pakistan that it is “on probation” under this truce, signaling strict consequences if hostilities resume. The Indian Army remains vigilant and ready to respond decisively to any threats. The ongoing situation reflects a cautious but hopeful step toward peace on the tense India-Pakistan border.
