Milwaukee, Wisconsin: A 26-year-old Indian student Gamba Praveen was shot dead by unidentified assailants during a suspected robbery at a store in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The victim, a resident of Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district, had traveled to the United States for higher studies and was working a part-time when the incident occurred.
As per reports, Praveen had attempted to call his father, Raghavulu, in the early hours of Wednesday, but the call was missed. Later, when his family tried to contact him, a stranger answered the phone, raising suspicions. His friends later confirmed that Praveen had been shot during the robbery attempt.
The U.S. authorities have informed Praveen’s family and stated that the exact cause of death will be determined following an autopsy. His grieving parents are in shock over the tragic loss.
The Consulate General of India in Chicago expressed deep sorrow over the incident, assuring full support to Praveen’s family.
‘We are saddened by the untimely death of Praveen Kumar Gampa, a Post-graduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The Consulate is in contact with his family and the University, assisting them in every possible way. Our heartfelt condolences and prayers are with his loved ones,” the Consulate wrote on X.
This incident follows a similar case in December 2023, when Sai Teja, a 22-year-old student from Telangana, was shot and killed at a gas station in Chicago. The rising number of attacks on Indian students in the U.S. has raised concerns among families and authorities, urging stronger measures to ensure their safety.
