The Indian National Congress party inaugurated its new headquarters, ‘Indira Bhawan,’ at 9A Kotla Road, New Delhi, on January 15. The event marks a fresh chapter in the party’s 139-year legacy. Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP), presided over the inauguration, alongside party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.
The ceremony brought together over 400 prominent leaders, including Congress Working Committee (CWC) members, former Chief Ministers, and senior MPs, signifying the party’s unity and resolve. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who arrived earlier at the venue was welcomed by vibrant posters that referred to the building as ‘Sardar Manmohan Singh Bhawan.’
Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan reflected on the legacy of the former office at 24, Akbar Road. “It gave us four Prime Ministers and witnessed both triumphs and trials. Today, as we move into Indira Bhawan, we carry forward that rich history with new enthusiasm.”
Senior politician Ambika Soni was more upbeat about the new phase of Congress. This resettlement is a good omen. Indira Bhawan is a symbol of the party’s commitment to its values and the vision of its power,” she said.
Indira Bhawan is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to support administrative and strategic activities. The headquarters symbolizes the Congress’s enduring mission to build a modern, equitable India, inspired by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Indira Gandhi.
