May 5, 2025, Monday, Kanpur: A devastating fire in Kanpur Dehat district, Uttar Pradesh, has claimed the lives of a couple and their three children. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday in Haramau village, under the jurisdiction of Rura police station. The victims were identified as Satish (30), his wife Kajal (26), and their children Sunny (7), Sandeep (4), and Rishi (2). Satish’s mother, Reshma (50), sustained severe burns and is currently receiving treatment at the district hospital.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was caused by a short circuit, possibly from an electric bulb in the hut. The family was asleep when the fire broke out, leading to the tragic deaths.
Local authorities, including District Magistrate Neha Jain and Superintendent of Police BBGTS Murthy, visited the scene. Fire brigade teams, along with villagers, managed to extinguish the flames. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences and directed officials to ensure proper treatment for the injured.
