London, March 6, 2025 – A group of Khalistani extremists attempted to disrupt India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s visit in London. The incident transpired outside Chatham House, where Jaishankar had participated in a discussion. As he was leaving the venue, a protester ran towards his convoy and tore the Indian national flag in front of police officers.
A video of the incident, widely circulating online, shows the protester aggressively approaching the minister’s vehicle while officers initially hesitated to intervene. Pro-Khalistan demonstrators were seen waving flags and chanting slogans outside the venue. Moments later, the police moved in and detained the protester and other extremists.
Jaishankar is on an official visit to the UK from March 4-9 to strengthen bilateral ties, covering trade, health, education, defence cooperation, and people-to-people relations. He held discussions with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy at Chevening House, focusing on strategic coordination and trade negotiations.
During a Chatham House discussion, Jaishankar was asked about the Kashmir issue and the possibility of mediation by former US President Donald Trump. He firmly rejected third-party intervention, stating that India had already addressed the matter through the abrogation of Article 370 and regional development. He reiterated that the remaining issue was Pakistan’s illegal occupation of part of Kashmir.
Despite the disruption, Jaishankar is set to continue his engagements with UK officials, emphasizing the India-UK comprehensive strategic partnership. The security breach has raised concerns about extremist activities targeting Indian diplomats abroad.
