Jan 23, 2025: Larsen and Toubro (L&T) CEO and Managing Director, SN Subharmanyan who advocated a 90-hour work week had recently triggered controversy in those remarks. He said that employees should work 90 hours a week even on Sundays.
The engineering giant has faced a significant blow as The Defence Ministry rejected L&T’s proposal due to non-compliance with the Indian Navy’s requirement of a sea-proof system in its tender document specs. The rejection of L&T’s tender leaves state-woned Mazagaon Dockyards as the major contender for this project.
Rejection of L&T Proposal.
The engineering giant L&T had filed a proposal in partnership with Navatia to provide the Indian Navy with six advanced submarines. The requirement included a seas-proven system with the ability to stay underwater for three weeks under Project 75 India. Under crucial circumstances, the proposal was rejected by the Defence Ministry for being non-compliant with the Navy’s requirements.
The Rejection of the Larsena and Turbro tender proposal leaves state-owned Mazagaon Dockyards Limited the only one left in the race for making those six submarines. The partner of Mazagaon Dockyards, ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems will be the only one left in the race.
The 90-hour Workweek controversy
