May 15, Madhya Pradesh: The Indore Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court issued a significant interim order, halting the declaration of the NEET-UG 2025 examination results. This decision was prompted by reports of a power outage at one of the examination centers during the test, raising concerns about the fairness and integrity of the examination process.
The disruption, reportedly caused by heavy rainfall leading to electricity failure, resulted in significant challenges for students at the affected center. Candidates and their parents reported that the examination did not commence on time, and the overall environment was chaotic. Many students have since demanded a re-examination, citing the compromised conditions under which they had to take the test.
In response to these grievances, the High Court has directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to provide a comprehensive explanation within four weeks regarding the circumstances that led to the power failure and the measures taken to address the situation. The court emphasized the importance of maintaining the examination’s integrity and ensuring that no student is disadvantaged due to infrastructural shortcomings.
This development adds to the ongoing scrutiny of the NEET-UG examination process. Previously, students from Bhopal and Jabalpur filed petitions challenging the NEET-UG 2024 results, alleging discrepancies in their scores and potential malpractices. One student from Bhopal claimed that, based on the official answer key, she should have scored 617 marks, but her result reflected only 340 marks. Another student from Jabalpur raised concerns about multiple top-ranking candidates having consecutive roll numbers and identical scores, suggesting possible irregularities.
These incidents have sparked widespread protests and demands for a thorough investigation into the NEET-UG examination process. Student organizations have called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe to ensure transparency and accountability. The NTA, responsible for conducting the examination, has yet to provide detailed responses to these allegations.
The Madhya Pradesh High Court’s decision to stay the NEET-UG 2025 results underscores the critical need for robust infrastructure and transparent processes in national-level examinations. As the NTA prepares its response, students and stakeholders across the country await further developments, hoping for resolutions that uphold the principles of fairness and meritocracy in the examination system.
