New Delhi, April 30: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, and called on all political parties to stand united with the central government in its response. She appealed to a series of posts on the social media platform ‘X’, urging political leaders to refrain from using the tragic incident for political gain.
Describing the attack as a “lethal massacre of tourists by Pakistan-backed terrorists”, Mayawati expressed deep sorrow and anger over the loss of innocent lives at one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations. She noted that the entire country is in shock and that the incident, which occurred during peak tourist season, reflects a serious lapse in security.
“The whole country is shocked by this horrific incident in Pahalgam. Such attacks, especially during tourist season, show grave negligence in security arrangements. There must be accountability,” Mayawati stated.
In her social media message, Mayawati stressed that all parties must rise above political differences and support the government’s efforts to address the issue. She warned against using the tragedy as a political tool and appealed for restraint in making divisive statements or displaying provocative posters.
“All parties should stand unitedly with the government in every step taken on the issue of the Pahalgam terror attack, and dirty politics should not be done under its guise through posters and statements etc., because this is creating confusion among the people, which is not good for the country’s interest,” she wrote.
Mayawati also took the opportunity to issue a stern warning to the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress. She accused both parties of disrespecting the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and hinted at a possible agitation by the BSP if such actions continued.
“In this case, the architect of the Indian Constitution, the most revered Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, should not be insulted at all. The SP and Congress should especially take special care of this; otherwise, the BSP can also take to the streets against them,” she warned.
Reiterating the need for a strong and unified response, Mayawati emphasized that the focus should remain on national security. “Steps taken by the central government to restore public confidence are more important than party politics and mutual accusations,” she said.
The BSP chief’s remarks reflect a rare call for political unity, urging a collective stance to address terrorism and ensure such tragedies are prevented in the future.
