Mumbai Police Enforces Ban: Safety Move Sparks Public Concern Till 23rd

Mumbai

MUMBAI – The Mumbai police have imposed a ban on gatherings of five or more people from midnight on January 9 to January 23, stating concerns over potential disturbances to public peace and tranquility. The order, a routine measure according to officials, comes despite no specific intelligence warnings.

During this period, assemblies, processions, and the use of loudspeakers, musical bands, or firecrackers are prohibited. However, exceptions have been granted for weddings, funerals, and events organized by cooperative societies, social associations, companies, and government bodies.

The restrictions aim to maintain order in the city amid ongoing civic activities and ensure public safety. Police authorities have urged citizens to adhere to the directive and avoid unnecessary gatherings to prevent any disruptions.

In another incident, a tragic family dispute unfolded in Mumbai’s Qureshi Nagar, where a 41-year-old woman allegedly stabbed her 62-year-old mother to death during a heated argument.

The accused, Reshma Muzaffar Qazi, reportedly attacked her mother, Sabira Bano Azgar Sheikh, in a fit of rage following a confrontation over perceived favoritism. Reshma claimed her mother favored her elder sister, leading to long-standing resentment. The altercation escalated when Sabira, who was visiting Reshma from her son’s home in Mumbra, attempted to mediate the situation.

According to police, Reshma grabbed a kitchen knife during the argument and brutually stabbed Sabira. After committing the crime, Reshma walked into the Chunabhatti police station and confessed.

Police officers promptly visited the crime scene, confirmed Sabira’s death, and arrested Reshma. Authorities are investigating the motive behind the killing and examining Reshma’s mental condition while gathering additional details from family members.

The tragic incident has shocked the local community, with neighbors expressing disbelief over the violent outcome of a familial disagreement. Meanwhile, the police have assured a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the crime.

Both developments highlight the importance of vigilance and adherence to law and order in ensuring public safety and addressing familial conflicts constructively.
