February 20, Vijaywada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday announced that the state government, under the leadership of the NDA, has appointed new vice-chancellors for nine universities in Andhra Pradesh, all based on merit. Naidu took to ‘X’ to share his views on the significant development, stating that the move marks the beginning of a new chapter for higher education in the state.
“Today, we take a significant step forward in the field of higher education in Andhra Pradesh. For the first time, Vice-Chancellors will be appointed solely on merit, following transparent and established procedures. While higher education is essential in shaping the future of citizens, it was often hindered in the past by political influence and lobbying,” Naidu wrote.
He emphasized that the merit-based selection process introduced by the NDA government ensures that qualified individuals are appointed to lead institutions, advancing the cause of education and knowledge. Naidu added that this system not only brings about positive change but also promotes social justice.
In a historic first, Naidu highlighted the appointment of Prof. Prasanna Sree, a woman from the tribal community, as Vice-Chancellor of Adikavi Nannayya University in Rajahmundry. Prof. Sree, an English professor at Andhra University, has made history with her appointment, marking a proud moment for both education and social justice in the state.
“I congratulate all the newly appointed Vice-Chancellors and wish them success in their roles as they continue to advance education and knowledge in Andhra Pradesh,” Naidu concluded.
Governor Justice Abdul Nazeer issued the orders for the appointment of the new Vice-Chancellors on Tuesday, confirming the appointment of academic leaders for several key universities across the state.
