Pakistan Army Faces Mass Resignations Amid Rising Tensions with India

The Pahalgam Terrorist Attack: There has been extreme turmoil in the Pakistani army, and more than 250 officers and 1200 soldiers have quit. They have a fear that India will impose extreme measures against Pakistan shortly, and due to this fear, their morale has seriously declined.

A terrorist attack on April 22, 2025, in Pahalgam, Jammu-Kashmir, has drastically increased tensions between India and Pakistan. India’s strong reaction and military mobilisation after the attack have frozen Pakistan’s blood. News now indicates that there is huge turmoil in the Pakistani army, with over 250 officers and 1200 troops resigning.

A letter from within states that the morale of Pakistan’s military has dipped terribly. Lieutenant General Umar Ahmed Bukhari stated, “There has been a severe setback, and the morale of the forces is dampened.” Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also suggested conducting an open and impartial inquiry into the Pahalgam attack. As per reports, militants of the Resistance Front, associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba, targeted 26 tourists in the Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam, among whom Indian Navy Lieutenant Vinay Narwal and his wife Himanshi were killed in the attack.

India has blamed Pakistan for the attack and has been taking harsh measures against it, such as closing the Attari-Wagah border, suspending the Indus Water Treaty, and issuing orders for Pakistani diplomats to vacate the country. These actions have placed Pakistan at a disadvantage, and today, the resignations of army officers and soldiers have been a point of concern for Pakistan.

According to viral social media posts, massive resignations are going on in the Pakistani army. It is being alleged that over 250 officers and 1200 soldiers have resigned due to fear of greater tension with India and the chance of military operations. In a letter, Lieutenant General Umar Ahmed Bukhari threatened Army Chief General Asim Munir that the morale of the army is collapsing. Although these claims have not been officially confirmed, they certainly indicate instability in Pakistan.
