9 May New Delhi: Amidst growing tensions between India and Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently took a big call: all the remaining matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 will not be played in Pakistan anymore.
The decision was made a day after a drone crashed close to the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, where Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi were set to play a PSL match. The crash led to authorities postponing the game, which added to the security concerns.
After several top-level meetings between PSL franchises and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the Interior Minister of Pakistan, the board declared that the rest of the tournament will now be staged in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
As per PCB, the new schedule for matches will be revealed shortly. A total of 37 overseas players from cricketing countries such as Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan have shown reluctance to stay in Pakistan in light current instability.
This move is reminiscent of previous hurdles that Pakistani cricket has faced. Following the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore in 2009, international cricket had ceased in Pakistan and resumed only in 2019. Even the Champions Trophy 2025 was to be held in Pakistan, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) declined to send the Indian team, with all Indian matches, including the final, being shifted to Dubai.
