Jan 15, Wednesday, Navi Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Iskcon temple, Sri Sri Radha Madanmohanji Temple, in Kharghar Navi Mumbai yesterday. The temple is constructed by The International Society for Krishna Consciousness. The new temple is a part of ISKCON’s Glory of Maharashtra initiative.
The total cost of the construction is Rs.170 crore. During the inauguration, PM Modi emphasized the government’s commitment to working with dedication and having a spirit of service. The PM highlighted the potential of the temple to become a holy center enhancing India’s faith and consciousness. The inauguration was done by the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the presence of Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CM Shri Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, Maharashtra CM Governor CP Radhakrishnan, and BJP MP Hema Malini.
The temple complex spans 2.5 acres of built-up area, with the remaining five acres dedicated to lush green spaces. It includes a Vedic education center, proposed museums, an auditorium, a healing center, Srila Prabhupada’s Memorial, educational institutions, and community service initiatives. The complete project is spread over nine acres. The temple is the second largest ISKCON temple in Asia. The inauguration ceremony was attended by PM Modi expressed his gratitude for stating the temple’s inauguration is a symbol of India’s spiritual culture and the government’s service-oriented initiatives.

Moreover, the inauguration ceremony was attended by hundreds of devotees from various parts of the world. The temple complex, which is funded entirely by donations, includes a temple with several deities, proposed museums, and a grand prasad hall that can seat up to 3000 people. PM Modi performed puja at the new temple and addressed the importance of the temple which is preserving Indian spiritual traditions and the spirit of service.
Devotees expressed deep gratitude and excitement over the inauguration, with some noting that they had been waiting for years for a local ISKCON temple in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai.
The new temple is expected to promote universal brotherhood, peace, and harmony through Vedic teachings. The temple will serve as a model of integration between tradition and modernity, benefitting the nation while upholding India’s rich heritage.
