Feb 4 Tuesday, 2025: Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump in Washington DC on February 13. Trump is likely to host a dinner for the PM during his visit. This meeting will be Modi’s first bilateral visit to the US after Trump became president to the US.
The two leaders are expected to discuss various issues, including trade and security in the Indo-Pacific region. This meeting is set to take place after Modi visits France, where he will co-chair an AI summit with President Emmanuel Macron on February 10-11.
During the call on 27 January Trump spoke about immigration and stressed the importance of India buying more American-made security equipment and fair bilateral trading ties. Trump had previously confirmed that Modi would be visiting the White House in February, following their first phone conversation since Trump’s inauguration on January 20.
The meeting will have talks between Modi and Trump to cover a range of topics, including expanding and deepening cooperation, regional security issues, and the importance of increasing India’s procurement of American-made security equipment.
India is also keen to avoid tariffs that Trump has threatened in the past, citing India’s high tariffs on US products. This meeting is seen as an opportunity for the two leaders to establish a personal rapport and pave the way for deeper collaboration with the two countries despite potential sticking points such as trade and illegal immigration.
