Feb 28, 2025: The Pune police have arrested Dattatraya Ramdas Gade, 37, a resident of Gunat village in Shirur, in connection with the assault of a woman waiting to board a bus to Satara. The incident occurred around 5:30 am on Tuesday when Gade allegedly lured the victim into an empty Shivshahi bus, part of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation fleet, and assaulted her. The bus’s sealed windows prevented immediate outside intervention.
In a joint operation, Pune city and rural police teams, aided by drones and a dog squad, scoured sugarcane fields near Gunat village to track Gade. He was arrested early Friday. Gade has a history of criminal activity, with six prior cases, including robbery and mobile theft in Pune and Ahmednagar. In 2020, authorities invoked Section 110 of the Criminal Procedure Code, targeting habitual offenders, against him.
Gade is now in police custody and faces multiple charges related to the assault. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses. The case highlights concerns over public safety and the need for stricter monitoring of repeat offenders. Authorities have assured a thorough probe to ensure justice for the victim.
