February 17, New Delhi: A team of police officials visited the New Delhi Railway Station on Monday to collect CCTV footage to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the tragic stampede on February 15. The incident claimed the lives of at least 18 people and left 15 others injured. Authorities are working diligently to piece together the circumstances surrounding the disaster to prevent future occurrences.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, addressing the incident, dismissed any claims of conspiracy, asserting that there was no extraordinary rush at the station. Despite this, to enhance safety measures, additional security personnel were deployed, and crowd control efforts were intensified. Holding areas were created, and CCTV surveillance was bolstered to monitor the situation more closely.
Of the 15 injured, five remain hospitalized, continuing their recovery. Survivors of the stampede have shared harrowing accounts of their near-death experiences, heightening concerns about crowd management at one of the busiest railway stations in the country. Officials are on high alert, ensuring that such a tragedy does not repeat itself.
Meanwhile, the station continues to see a high volume of passengers, many of whom are en route to the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. The influx of travelers, especially with religious events taking place, has put further strain on crowd management systems at the station.
