Schools in Rajasthan’s border districts have been shut since May 8 due to security concerns after India’s missile strikes.
Following India’s missile attacks on terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) as part of Operation Sindoor, a state of cautionary school holiday has been announced across Rajasthan’s border districts like Barmer, Bikaner, Sri Ganganagar, and Jaisalmer. All the government and private schools have been asked to remain closed until further notice because of national security issues and the safety of school children.
Barmer District Collector Tina Dabi issued a notice under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, stating that all government and non-government schools, CBSE-affiliated schools, madrasas, Anganwadis, and play schools up to Class 12 will be closed from May 8.
Home or common examinations scheduled have also been deferred. School officials have been asked to report punctually, and failure to do so will attract action under the Disaster Act.
The Bikaner by District Collector Namrata Vrishni and in Sri Ganganagar by Collector Dr Manju. Both districts invoked Section 30 of Chapter 4 of the Disaster Management Act to enforce the school closures. CBSE schools and Anganwadis, given the safety of schoolchildren during the national security emergency.
In Jaisalmer, District Collector Pratap Singh also announced the closure of educational institutions from May 8, mirroring the same safety orders and exam delays. All orders emphasized strict compliance and warned against action against institution heads who do not follow them.
The shutdowns are in the wake of increased alert along the border after India conducted precision strikes on nine terror infrastructure facilities belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) across the border. They were in response to the recent terror strike in Pahalgam. The Indian Army is on high alert after inputs of ceasefire violations from the other side.
