13 May New Delhi: Air India has cancelled all two-way flights to and from eight cities on Tuesday, May 13, in the face of rising military and diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan. Jammu, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot are among the cities that have been affected.
Flight cancellations are a precautionary measure in the current regional situation, where security is given importance over flight schedules. Some of India’s northern and western airports were previously temporarily closed, halting regular flight operations.
In a public post of a travel advisory, Air India said, “Due to recent events and to maintain your safety, flights from and to Jammu, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot are cancelled for Tuesday, May 13.” They cancel domestic flights and some international connecting flights. They have asked passengers to verify their flight status either on the website of the airline or contact center.
Earlier, 32 airports in northern and western India were shut temporarily after the increased alertness following drone flights and cross-border unrest. Although these airports have been reopened for civilian operations, flight schedules continue to be impacted and are being resumed step by step.
Indian defence sources have validated the interception of drones in Samba sector, Jammu district. The air defence systems had engaged and defused these air threats. The military officials clarified that although there were drone incursions, their scale was restricted, and no panic is necessary. Surveillance and air defence precautions have been augmented in the hit areas.
passengers who have booked travel from or to the cities mentioned are requested to defer non-essential travel and wait for further notification from Air India. The airline has guaranteed that its teams are working around the clock to resume normal operations at the earliest and will continue to offer real-time updates.
