Mumbai, January 16, 2025: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan suffered multiple injuries during a robbery attempt at his Bandra West residence in the early hours of Thursday. The actor, 54, is undergoing surgery at Lilavati Hospital, where his condition is stable.
According to Mumbai Police, an unknown person broke into the actor’s residence around 2:30 a.m. Saif confronted the intruder during the incident, which escalated into a violent altercation. Armed with a knife, the attacker stabbed six injuries to the actor, including two deep wounds. One of these injuries, located near the spine, required immediate neurosurgery, followed by ongoing plastic surgery.
Dr. Uttamani, Chief Operating Officer at Lilavati Hospital, provided an update on Saif’s condition. “The neurosurgery has been completed. Plastic surgery is currently ongoing, and the actor is stable. A detailed assessment will follow after all surgical procedures are concluded.”
Domestic Help Under Suspicion
Initial investigations suggest that the attacker may have gained access to the house with the help of a domestic worker. Bandra Police revealed that a house help, Mrs. Ariyama Phillips alias Lima, raised the alarm during the incident. Police suspect she may have inadvertently or deliberately enabled the intruder’s entry. Lima and other household staff are being questioned, while CCTV footage is being analyzed to trace the assailant.
The police also noted that the intruder was briefly locked in a room during the commotion but managed to escape. Lima reportedly sustained minor injuries while attempting to intervene, further complicating her role in the incident.
Family’s Quick Response
Upon receiving a distress call, Ibrahim, Saif’s eldest son, rushed to the actor’s Bandra residence, located in the Satguru Sharan building. He accompanied his father to Lilavati Hospital by 3:30 a.m., just an hour after the attack occurred.
Saif’s wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, was present at the time of the attack but remained unharmed. The family has expressed gratitude for the swift medical intervention and the outpouring of support from fans and well-wishers.
Actor’s Team Issues Statement
Saif’s team confirmed the incident and requested privacy, in an official statement. “There was an attempted burglary at Saif Ali Khan’s residence. He is currently in the hospital undergoing surgery. We request the media and fans to remain patient as this is a police matter. Updates will be provided as needed,” the statement read.
Investigation Underway
The Mumbai Crime Branch and local police are collaborating on the case, leaving no stone unturned to identify and apprehend the attacker. The authorities are combing through security footage and other evidence to piece together the events leading up to the confrontation.
