New Delhi, May 6, 2025
Following the Phalgam terrorist attack, all security agencies across the country have heightened their alert levels. Given the rising tensions between India and Pakistan, the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued orders to conduct a nationwide security check and mock drill. This mock drill will take place across all states on May 7. Its purpose is to train people on how to behave appropriately during an emergency.
According to sources, the Ministry of Home Affairs has stated that the mock drill will be conducted with scenarios such as airstrikes or major terrorist attacks in mind. Sirens will be sounded to alert people, and they will be informed on how and where to stay safe during such times. This exercise will take place in schools, colleges, and public places. The “Crash Blackout,” where all lights are suddenly turned off to prevent the enemy from locating a place, will also be practiced. Instructional measures for securely evacuating citizens and procedures to save those in captivity within structures will also be provided.
Special preparations have been organized for the mock drill in Delhi as well. Top officials of the Delhi Police have ordered DCPs (District Police Chiefs) to prepare meticulous security plans in their respective domains. Increased patrols are being conducted both day and night. Paramilitary forces have been deployed along the borders with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
Special patrol units have been assigned to areas such as Connaught Place, India Gate, Janpath, Yashwant Palace, and Gol Market. The number of foot patrols is also being stepped up. Moreover, Bomb Disposal Squads (BDS) and Dog Squads will be put on patrol in these regions.
Meetings are being arranged with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), Market Welfare Associations (MWAs), Civil Defence Committees, and private security personnel. They have been instructed to immediately report to the police if they encounter anything unusual in goods or activities.
The main objectives of this mock drill are to raise awareness among the public, enhance interdepartmental coordination, identify loopholes, and enhance overall security.
