In a tragic incident that has shocked the community, Indian-origin entrepreneur Akshay Gupta was fatally stabbed on a public bus in Austin, Texas, on May 14. The attack occurred while Gupta, 30, was sitting at the back of the bus.
Details of the Incident
Deepak Kandel, 31, another Indian man, allegedly stabbed Gupta in the neck without any warning. According to the Austin Police Department, emergency services arrived quickly and tried to save Gupta, but he was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m. The bus had 12 passengers when the incident took place.
CCTV footage showed that Kandel calmly left the bus along with other passengers after the attack. He was arrested less than a mile from the scene. When questioned, Kandel stated that he attacked Gupta because Gupta resembled his uncle.
