Hyderabad: Renowned Telugu playback singer Kalpana Raghavendar was found unconscious at her residence in Hyderabad on Tuesday evening, following an alleged suicide attempt. The police, alerted by the Residents’ Association of her apartment complex, forcibly entered her house and found her in an unconscious state. She was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Nizampet, where she is currently receiving treatment.
According to doctors, Kalpana had consumed sleeping pills, but her condition is now stable. “She is out of danger, and further details will be known after she regains consciousness,” a police official from KPHB Police Station stated.
Kalpana’s husband, Prasad, who was in Chennai at the time, had tried to contact her for two days but received no response. Concerned, he requested community members to check on her, which eventually led to the discovery of her critical state.
The singer had recently returned from Kerala to Hyderabad for an event. The police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding her suspected suicide attempt. While the exact reasons remain unknown, authorities are examining possible personal or professional stress factors.
Several well-known figures from the Telugu music industry, including singers Geeta Madhuri and Sunitha, visited Kalpana at the hospital to offer their support.
Kalpana Raghavendar is a celebrated singer in the South Indian music industry, known for her contributions to Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada cinema. She gained widespread recognition after winning Padutha Theeyaga, a singing reality show, and later participated in Bigg Boss Telugu Season 1.
