Lucknow, May 15
A terrible accident happened early Thursday morning on Kisan Path in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. A sleeper bus going from Bihar to Delhi suddenly caught fire while it was moving. In this tragic incident, five people were burned alive. Many others were injured.
The bus was carrying passengers from the Begusarai district in Bihar to Delhi. Most of the people were sleeping when the fire started. The fire spread quickly and covered the whole bus within a few minutes.
Among the people who died were two women and two small children. The victims have been identified as Lakshmi (55), Soni (26), Devraj (3 years), and Sakshi (1 year). One man who died has not been identified yet. All the people who died were from Begusarai, Bihar.
Eyewitnesses said that there was complete chaos as the fire broke out. As soon as the fire started, the bus driver and conductor jumped out of the bus and ran away. The bus was still moving fast and kept burning for nearly one kilometer. This made the situation even more dangerous.
Some passengers tried to escape through the windows, but they could not. The windows had iron rods, and people got trapped inside. Many passengers could not get out and were burned to death.
After getting information about the fire, teams from the PGI fire station, PGI police station, and Sushant Golf City police station quickly reached the spot. Firefighters managed to control the fire, but by that time, the entire bus had burned down. Several people were injured and taken to the trauma center. Their treatment is going on.
The police from PGI Kotwali are now investigating the incident. The precise reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained. However, initial reports indicate that a short circuit could have triggered the fire.
This tragic incident has led to some serious concerns regarding the safety of sleeper buses. The people are upset as the driver and conductor fled without assisting the passengers. Officials stated that stern action would be taken against the culprits.
This tragedy reminds us that bus operators have to adhere to safety guidelines. Lives would have been saved if there were more effective safety measures in place. Today, families in Bihar are grieving the loss of their loved ones, and the nation is again compelled to consider passenger safety on Indian roads.
