Vadodara car horror: Victim Attorney confirms Vakalatnama against law student.

Vadodara

March 18, Vadodara, Gujarat: The horror accident occurred on March 14, 2025, when a speeding vehicle crashed into several two-wheelers at Muktanand Crossroads in Vadodara, Gujarat, killing a woman and injuring eight others. The accused driver, law student Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia, aged 23 years, has been arrested and is in judicial custody.

The accident took place at approximately 12:30 am when Chaurasia’s Volkswagen Virtus reportedly rammed three cars, including Hemali Patel’s scooter and that of her husband, Purav Patel. Hemali Patel died on the spot, and Purav is still in critical condition. Three other people, two of whom are children, were also seriously injured.

Yogesh Rana, the attorney for the victims, confirmed that a Vakalatnama (memo of appearance) has been lodged against Chaurasia in Vadodara. To date, no bail application has been made on behalf of the accused. The investigation officer produced Chaurasia in court, which then sent him to judicial custody.

Rana has also condemned the police for letting Chaurasia state the media in custody, terming it an indication of laxity. He highlighted the seriousness of the attack, pointing out that a woman had lost her life, her husband was critical, and three others, including two children, were critically injured. Rana complained that the accused was allowed to address the media while in police custody, which raised issues of possible protocol lapses.

Vadodara Police Commissioner Narasimha Komar said that the accident involved several vehicles, two Activa scooters, and an electric vehicle (EV). He confirmed that eight individuals were injured and a woman also died. Komar ensured that several investigative teams were busy gathering evidence from the spot and monitoring the movements of both the driver and the co-rider of the four-wheeler.

Chaurasia has refuted being drunk at the time of the accident. He alleged that his vehicle hit a pothole while making a right turn, resulting in a minor collision with another car. The airbag inflated unexpectedly, blocking his eyesight and making the vehicle uncontrollable, according to Chaurasia. He added that he was driving at around 50 km/h and wanted to meet the families of the victims, accepting his error in the accident.

One of the victims, Vikas Kewalani, described that he and two others were riding a two-wheeler when an overspeeding car crashed into their vehicle. He said that after he fell, he saw the car collide with another vehicle, causing severe injuries to a husband and wife. Kewalani condemned the idea that fines are enough to act as deterrents, supporting harsher punishment so that people understand the seriousness of such an act. He also accused the accused of seeming drunk and being overspeed for fun.

The accident has caused widespread outrage on social media. CCTV footage of the crash has gone viral, depicting the intensity of the crash. Public personalities, such as actress Janhvi Kapoor, have condemned the accident and demanded strict action against negligent driving.
