A businessman from Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district, Shahzad, has been arrested for spying for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Task Force apprehended him in Moradabad after receiving information regarding his involvement in smuggling and espionage.
Shahzad reportedly smuggled items such as cosmetics, clothes, and spices across the border, which served as a cover for his secret activities for the ISI. Additionally, he provided money and Indian SIM cards to ISI agents operating within India.
Further investigations revealed that Shahzad arranged for individuals from Rampur and other parts of Uttar Pradesh to travel to Pakistan to work for the ISI. The intelligence agency facilitated visas for these individuals.
This arrest follows the recent detainment of Haryana-based YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, who was accused of passing sensitive information to Pakistani intelligence.
These developments come amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan following a deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities are intensifying efforts to curb espionage and illegal cross-border activities.
