Dhanteras : The Onset of Light and Wealth

The cultural dawn of the Dhanteras festival in India arises according to the Saka Calendar on 29th of  October 2024. Dhanteras is renowned for the Nation’s cultural triumph over prosperity and harmony that makes the society of India think and respond over habitual glorifications.  Dhanteras falls before the day of Diwali and Lakshmi Pooja, which eventually make people prepare for the glory of light with all the wealth that they are capable of accumulating, ranging from gold to tools. The mythological concept of Lord Dhanvantari choosing over the Amrit has many storyline backdrops and beliefs associated with folklore and traditions.

The emergence of Dhanteras as a culturally significant day goes back to the early legendary time. According to Hindu mythology, the concept and values of Dhanteras are closely connected to the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean).  The Dhanteras is a day of remembrance when Goddess Lakshmi emerged from the Kshira Sagar (ocean of milk) carrying a vessel of gold which stands for wealth and prosperity. The concept of well-being is close to the term as of the role of Lord Dhanvantari, who carries Amrit ( the nectar of immortality) during the churning of ocean, thus how the concept connects with the necessity of health and wellness. Praying and chanting for goddesses Lakshmi and Dhanvantari not only brings glory but well-being to families and collectiveness. The belief practice of conducting Lakshmi Pooja and chanting her mantras by offering sweets and flowers stood as a typical cultural practice that has been practised for ages. 4. Broom:  Believed to be swiping away bad omens from one’s home and life during this occasion.

Things to avoid buying.

There are things to avoid in plenty ranging from plastic products to sharp objects. Apart from that, using black items, glass materials, etc is also believed to be a bad omen as part of the sustaining myths and beliefs. Moreover, lending money and sharing gifts with a belief that sharing can drain wealth and prosperity from person to person is also strongly suggested to avoid during the eve of Dhanteras.
