Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh, March 4, 2025: A major train accident occurred Monday night when the Nandan Kanan Express, traveling from Anand Vihar to Puri, suddenly broke into two parts near Chandauli. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
The train had departed from platform number 1 of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Junction at around 9:30 PM. About six kilometers from the station, the coupling of the sleeper S4 coach unexpectedly broke, causing the train to split. Panic ensued among passengers as the train came to an abrupt halt.
Railway officials acted swiftly to manage the situation. Both separated parts of the train were carefully brought back to platforms 7 and 8 of DDU Junction. The passengers traveling in the affected bogie were shifted to another coach to ensure their safety.
After necessary inspections and repairs, the train was rejoined and resumed its journey around 1:00 AM. However, the incident led to significant delays. The Nandan Kanan Express was already running three hours late, and the accident caused an additional delay of approximately four hours.
Following the mishap, concerned railway officials reached the spot to assess the issue and ensure the safe departure of the train. The passengers, though shaken, cooperated with the authorities. Many expressed relief that there were no casualties or major damage.
The Indian Railways is expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the coupling failure to avoid similar mishaps.
