March 20, Himachal Pradesh: The tragic death of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) Chief Engineer Vimal Negi has sent shockwaves across the state. A day after his body was recovered from Gobind Sagar Lake in Bilaspur, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced an inquiry by an Additional Chief Secretary-level officer. However, the Opposition, led by former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, is not satisfied and demands a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, citing serious concerns over workplace pressure.
Negi had gone missing on March 10, sparking a frantic search operation. When his body was finally found on Tuesday, it only deepened the mystery surrounding his disappearance. His family and colleagues have raised troubling questions, alleging a toxic work environment at HPPCL. Some have hinted at workplace harassment or extreme professional pressure as possible factors leading to his death.
Addressing the Vidhan Sabha, CM Sukhu assured that strict action will be taken if anyone is found responsible. “We are committed to ensuring justice,” he said. However, the Opposition is not convinced. Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur insisted that only an independent probe could reveal the truth. “There are reports that he was under intense pressure. A CBI inquiry is necessary to ensure a fair and transparent investigation,” he argued.
Negi’s untimely demise has raised crucial concerns about workplace stress and mental health, especially in high-pressure government roles. His family’s demand for justice resonates with many who believe that a deeper investigation is needed. As the state grapples with this unsettling incident, all eyes are now on the government’s next steps in uncovering the truth.
