Thanksgiving in India: Honoring the Unsung Heroes

Thanksgiving in India: Honoring the Unsung Heroes

In a world where celebrations and holidays often center around grand feasts, gifts, and festivities, it offers an opportunity for reflection and gratitude. While many in India are aware of this ancient Thanksgiving notion of thanking the Almighty for the good harvests, here lies another chance to stop and think about those unsung heroes in our society who do jobs that go unnoticed but contribute substantially to our lives.

Housewives: The Pillars of Home

What the housewives do is never seen; they are the backbone of every household in India. They wake up before dawn and are busy late into the night managing all household chores, managing children, tending to the elderly, and running a household. The recognition for a housewife is less; it is to be done as part of a ‘duty’ role. But without a housewife working hard, hardly a family gets through its rhythm in this world. Thanksgiving is probably the right occasion on which we can acknowledge the invaluable contributions of housewives who cultivate a stable and loving home to nurture generations and ensure a family’s survival. It is a reminder that true service is generally unheralded and often takes place in kitchens, laundries, and in the loving care of others.

Farmers: The Backbone of Nation

The Indian farmer is the pulse of India, working under the burning sun, waiting for unpredictable rains, and facing economic challenges, to fill every plate with food. Most of them are often neglected and face some of the worst ramifications from inadequate support, falling prices in the marketplace, and rising debt burdens. Ironically, those who feed the country sometimes struggle even to provide food for their families. They deserve recognition for their resilience and contributions on the occasion of Thanksgiving. By acknowledging farmers, we appreciate their efforts and remind ourselves how crucial it is to support sustainable agriculture practices and fair policies that protect their livelihoods.

Soldiers: Guardians of Peace

Such purity of selfless dedication towards a cause can come only from the very core of a soldier for the people of India. Surrounded by a sea of blurred realities arising from voodoo, fables, or indifference from society, the soldiers remain stationed at our borders, away from their families and comforts: they are men of foresight for our unending calm. Unknown martial heroes hiding in shadows, often obliterated by news headlines, whose sacrifices have always remained sadly unnoticed and unqualified. Yet they paved the way for every martinet to experience a peaceful and prosperous life. Thanksgiving is not only a day to pay homage to the soldier on the border but also a day to laud the family left back with dignity and pride to shoulder the burden of separation. The touch of caucas and sacrifice offered every day by these men and women in service goes unnoticed. Therefore, together Thanksgiving should be the day that we dedicate to their kindness and courtesy

Delivery Workers: Ensuring Convenience

Lastly, we must acknowledge the persistent efforts of delivery workers whose professions are crucial to our daily lives yet often go unnoticed. Delivery workers have become the lifeline of e-commerce ensuring that orders reach us on time. Their hard work, often under stressful conditions, makes our modern, fast-paced lives possible. Yet, their contribution is often overlooked. This Thanksgiving, remember to appreciate them for their efforts to make our lives easier.

Gratitude Beyond the Feast

Thanksgiving is not just about a feast; it’s about acknowledging the people who make our lives easier, safer, and more meaningful. From soldiers who protect us to housewives who nurture us, sanitation workers who keep our surroundings clean, and delivery workers who bring us what we need, these unsung heroes deserve our gratitude every single day. As we celebrate this season of thanks, let’s make it a habit to not only appreciate the fruits of our harvest but also acknowledge the hard work that goes into sustaining our everyday lives.
