UK National Arrested in Andamans for Alleged Sexual Assault on Bengaluru Woman

assault

March 10, Port Blair: A UK national has been arrested by the Andaman and Nicobar Islands police for allegedly sexually assaulting a 30-year-old woman from Bengaluru. The incident reportedly occurred at a scuba diving resort in Swaraj Dweep (Havelock Islands), officials confirmed on Monday.

According to the victim’s complaint, the assault took place on February 26 at Govind Nagar (Beach No. 2) in Swaraj Dweep. The woman, who was on vacation with a friend, claimed that her drink was spiked at the resort. She alleged that she lost consciousness and later found herself in a vulnerable state. After returning to her hometown, she informed her parents about the incident and filed a police complaint on March 6.

The complaint was initially registered as a Zero FIR and later transferred to the Swaraj Dweep police station for further investigation. In her statement, the victim cited trauma and memory loss as reasons for the delay in reporting the incident.

South Andaman Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Meena stated, “The foreign national has been arrested and is currently in 14-day judicial custody. The investigation is ongoing, and we are awaiting medical reports to proceed further.”

Police revealed that the victim and her friend had met the accused, a UK national learning scuba diving, during their stay in Swaraj Dweep. The group had been socializing before the alleged incident.

The accused has been charged under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 64 (punishment for rape), Section 115(2) (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), and Section 351(2) (offence of criminal intimidation).

Authorities continue their probe into the matter, with further details expected as the investigation progresses.
