Rajahmundry, March 4, 2025: A devastating boat accident in the Godavari River near Rajahmundry on Monday night claimed the lives of two people after a country boat capsized due to strong winds and water entering the vessel.

According to Rajahmundry Central DSP K Ramesh Babu, the victims were among a group traveling back from Bridge Lanka, a small island in the middle of the Godavari River. “Heavy winds swept the boat aside, causing it to capsize,” he stated. The deceased are identified as Gada Raju, a resident of Bhavanipuram, Rajahmundry, and Annavaram from Simhachal Nagar.

Authorities have registered a case against two people, including the boat operator and those responsible for collecting money for the boat trip. The police are investigating whether the boat was overloaded or lacked safety measures.

Following the incident, the bodies of the deceased were retrieved and sent for postmortem at the Rajahmundry Government Hospital. Officials have urged boat operators to follow safety protocols to prevent such accidents in the future.
