Washington DC [US], February 21:
Kash Patel, a staunch ally of former President Donald Trump, has been confirmed as the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) following a closely contested 51-49 Senate vote. All Senate Democrats and two Republican senators, Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins, opposed his nomination.
The White House hailed Patel’s appointment as a significant step toward restoring integrity in law enforcement. In a celebratory move, White House deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino shared a video featuring Patel’s face edited onto Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh’s dance sequence from Bajirao Mastani.
Patel, 44, has held several key national security roles, including Chief of Staff to Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller and Principal Deputy to the Acting Director of National Intelligence. He has worked on counterterrorism operations, intelligence oversight, and investigations into foreign influence in U.S. elections.
Following his confirmation, Patel vowed to make the FBI more transparent and accountable. Critics, including Senate Democrat Dirk Durbin, labeled him “dangerous and inexperienced.” However, supporters, including Trump, praised his “America First” approach.
