The History of the Constitution

The Constitution of India is the supreme law of the land. It outlines the framework of the country’s government, the relationship between the government and its citizens, and the fundamental rights and duties of all Indians. The government and citizens of the nation are to follow the Constitution’s laws.

The prestigious Constitution of India was drafted by a Constituent Assembly. The assembly had 284 members, who adapted the document after a long and complex process. The Assembly had met on December 9, 1946, and took nearly three years to finish the draft.

The Constitution came into effect on January 26, 1950, and since then, Republic Day has been celebrated annually to commemorate this significant event in Indian history. Every year the nation celebrates this day with great enthusiasm. Everyone has their own ways. Our nation is decorated in the beauty of tricolor, with small local vendors selling little flag badges, bands, and flags. Children prepare to dance to classic patriotic songs such as “Kadam Kadam Badhaiye Ja,” and “Desh Rangeela” and perform with great zeal.
