5 Coaches of a Puducherry-bound passenger train derailed near Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram railway station on Tuesday morning. The loco pilot’s move immediately stops the train averting a major accident.
Railway staff stated that all the passengers safely got off the train and that no one got any injuries. The cause of derailment would be known only after an inquiry into the same is completed, they said. PTI started on X (formerly Twitter) stating that Restoration work on the site is underway and that there were np0o injuries reported.
The authorities are investigating the event and the railway staff worked to clear the route for other trains to pass. The MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) trains left Vilupuram at 5.25 am and were passing a curve when the coach derailed and the loco pilot immediately stopped the train. The train was covering ver 38 Kms. A similar major accident occurred in October 2023 where 12 coaches of Bagmati Express were derailed at Kavarapettai which was just 40 kilometers away from Chennai.
