Boat Tragedy in Matatila Dam: 5 Bodies Recovered, 2 Still Missing

Shivpuri, March 19 – A tragic incident unfolded at Matatila Dam near Rajavan village in Shivpuri district when a boat carrying devotees capsized, leaving seven people missing. The boat was carrying 15 devotees who were on their way to visit a temple located on an island in the dam. While eight people managed to swim to safety, the remaining seven drowned.

Rescue operations began immediately, and so far, the bodies of five victims have been recovered. The search for the remaining two missing persons is ongoing, with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, and local administration working tirelessly. Divers from Vidisha and Morena have also been called in to assist in searching the deep waters of the dam.

Bodies of Five Victims Found

The recovered bodies have been identified as:

  • Sharda, wife of Imrat Lodhi
  • Leela, wife of Ramnivas Lodhi
  • Ramdevi, wife of Bhura Lodhi
  • Shiva, son of Bhura Lodhi
  • Kanha, son of Captain Lodhi

The missing individuals include three women and two children. Among the children, there are two boys and two girls. Their families are anxiously waiting for updates as the rescue operation continues.

Divers and Rescue Teams in Action

Shivpuri Collector Ravindra Kumar Chaudhary provided details about the ongoing rescue efforts. He confirmed that the SDRF team has been on-site since morning, leading an intensive search operation. With the help of police officers, local administration, and additional divers from nearby districts, the authorities are making every possible effort to recover the missing individuals.

The cause of the accident is yet to be determined, but preliminary reports suggest that the boat may have been overloaded or faced mechanical issues.

Government’s Response: CM Announces Financial Aid

The incident has deeply saddened the local community and government officials. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia have expressed their grief over the tragedy. The Chief Minister has also announced a financial assistance of ₹2 lakh to be provided to the families of each deceased victim.
