Jammu, April 14: The Indian Army successfully intercepted and shot down a Pakistani surveillance drone near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Jammu region. Defense sources confirmed that the drone was manufactured in China and was operated by Pakistan flying close to the Indian border, posing a potential threat to national security.
The incident occurred south of the Pir Panjal mountain range, under the authority of the Army’s 16 Corps. Swift action by air defense units led to the drone’s detection and neutralization before it could complete its surveillance mission. The interception was carried out using the indigenously developed ‘Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction System’ (IDD&IS), designed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
As per sources, the IDD&IS is supplied with state-of-the-art capabilities, including jamming, confusing, and disabling enemy drones. One of the system’s key features is a powerful 2-kilowatt laser beam that can destroy drones at distances ranging from 800 to 1,000 meters.
The drone shot down is believed to have been conducting surveillance activities near Indian positions along the LoC. It was detected in time and brought down effectively, preventing any potential intelligence gathering by aggressive forces.
The incident highlights India’s commitment to safeguarding its borders and protecting its sovereignty using advanced, self-developed defense systems. It marks another step forward in India’s journey toward a technologically advanced and self-reliant military force.
