Mystery Deepens: Actor Dileep Shankar Found Dead in Hotel Room

Thiruvananthapuram, December 30, 2024: Popular Malayalam actor Dileep Shankar, known for his roles in television serials and films, was found dead in his hotel room at Aroma, Vanross Junction. The 56-year-old actor had checked into the hotel on December 19 for the shooting of the television serial Panchagni. His dead body was discovered on Sunday, December 29, after hotel staff were alerted by a foul odor coming from his room.

Initial investigations suggest that Dileep’s death resulted from internal bleeding, possibly caused by a head injury sustained from a fall. Police have ruled out suicide and found no immediate signs of foul play. However, the exact cause of death will be determined after a post-mortem examination.

Dileep completed his shooting schedule early on December 27 due to health issues and was dropped back at the hotel by the crew. He had not responded to calls for two days. Concerned, the production controller visited the hotel on Sunday. The room, locked from the inside, was forcibly opened by staff, revealing the actor’s body on the bed. Tablets for liver disease and two empty alcohol bottles were found nearby.

The actor was known to have been battling chronic liver disease. According to colleagues, his health had been deteriorating, and he had been experiencing significant health issues in recent months.

Dileep Shankar was a prominent figure in Malayalam entertainment, having acted in popular television serials such as Ammayariyathe, Sundari, and Panchagni. He also appeared in acclaimed films like Chaappa Kurishu and North 24 Kaatham. His sudden demise has sent shockwaves across the industry, with tributes pouring in from colleagues and fans alike.

Actor Seema G Nair expressed her grief in a heartfelt Facebook post, recounting a missed opportunity to speak to Shankar just days before his death. “What happened to you, Dileep… why did this happen? God, I don’t even know what to write,” she wrote.

Shankar is survived by his wife, Suma, and two children, Deva and Dhruv. He resided in Ernakulam.
