Dileep completed his shooting schedule early on December 27 due to health issues and was dropped back at the hotel by the crew. He had not responded to calls for two days. Concerned, the production controller visited the hotel on Sunday. The room, locked from the inside, was forcibly opened by staff, revealing the actor’s body on the bed. Tablets for liver disease and two empty alcohol bottles were found nearby.
The actor was known to have been battling chronic liver disease. According to colleagues, his health had been deteriorating, and he had been experiencing significant health issues in recent months.
Dileep Shankar was a prominent figure in Malayalam entertainment, having acted in popular television serials such as Ammayariyathe, Sundari, and Panchagni. Actor Seema G Nair expressed her grief in a heartfelt Facebook post, recounting a missed opportunity to speak to Shankar just days before his death. “What happened to you, Dileep… why did this happen? God, I don’t even know what to write,” she wrote.
Shankar is survived by his wife, Suma, and two children, Deva and Dhruv. He resided in Ernakulam.
Authorities have shifted the body to the hospital for further examination. The Cantonment ACP confirmed that a forensic team would inspect the room for additional evidence.
